Consider This: 03/31/2025

Where are the places in my life where I am accepted and appreciated not for my talent, accomplishments, roles or relationships, but just for being me?   I was thinking of a former Ph.D. student who described our campus church as the one place in her life where she wasn’t being measured, ranked, evaluated, or judged by some outside criteria.   We all need those places.  Especially at Yale, so much of life orbits around ranking, judging, envy and pride.  When the semester gets crazy and the pressures build, which people and places in my life can I turn to who seem to like (or even love?) me not for what I can produce but for who I am, quirks and all?   Can I risk accepting the invitation of communities that won’t beef up my resume, but will love me and accept me as I am?
