This summer we’ve gotten to see more images from the James Webb telescope, brilliantly colorful pictures of great celestial events. I’m always in awe of the vastness of space, how it makes me feel like I’m part of something larger and longer in time than I can wrap my head around. This image is from the Ring Nebula, two thousand light years from Earth. On days when I start to feel overwhelmed images like this help me to zoom out. Whatever I’m worried about is minuscule compared to a picture like this. It doesn’t make my worries go away, but it does help give me perspective. The possibilities and worlds contained in this picture also give me hope that there are opportunities out
there that we could never imagine right now. As we begin this year and we begin to get overwhelmed by the challenges ahead of us, I hope we can have
moments of zooming out, sitting in awe of what might happening in the cosmos, perhaps unimaginable to us in this moment.

A photo of the Ring Nebula, showing colorful rings of gas around a blue green center. It looks somewhat like an eye.
