Past Event: Maha Shivarati (Hinduism)

This event has passed.

Maha Shivaratri is a Hindu festival celebrated annually in reverence of the God Shiva. It is the wedding night of Lord Shiva and his consort Goddess Parvati. Unlike most Hindu festivals, which are celebrated during the day, Shivaratri is celebrated at night. Hindus may begin their Shivaratri observance the day before by restricting their food intake to one meal. On Shivaratri day Hindus typically fast until Chaturdashi Tithi ends (a calculation based on the lunar cycle) usually late in the day or even the next morning.
