We are coming to the end of what has felt like a nearly impossible year of teaching and learning and yet, you, we, did it! We are finishing. Maybe it has not been neat and smooth throughout this academic year, but in important ways that has not been the point or the goal. We have been in a kind of survival mode this year. The pandemic is not done with us, the world is still fraught with wars, senseless violence, grief, anguish and deep injustices. The campus feels chaotic with end of term activities. Yet as I write this, I am also looking at the newly formed blossoms on fruit trees, the sprouting of bulbs and the pure joy of seeing people outside, gathering again, delighting in each other’s company. Was it a hard year? Yes. Do pep talks help anymore? I am not sure. I do want to bid you deep peace, to remind you that you deserve joy, you need rest and that chaos can give way to something shimmering. Keep your eyes out for that…
