Breathing Space
Breathing Space is a non-denominational creative, reflective and meditation space run by the Chaplain’s Office to provide a space for students to rest and recharge away from the busyness of campus, and as a no technology relaxation area.
Breathing Space can be found at entryway C of Welch Hall on Old Campus, and is open and staffed during the semester from 9:00 AM to 07:00 PM Monday to Thursday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Fridays, and 4:00 PM to 07:00 PM Sundays.
♿Accessibility Information
Unfortunately, Breathing Space is down a flight of stairs without an elevator, so is not a wheelchair accessible space.
Values of Breathing Space
- Breathing Space is a technology-free zone. Please silence your cell phones and store your personal belongings.
- Spiritual exploration and respect for multiple viewpoints.
- Acknowledgement that other individuals and groups use the space and adherence to reserved time slots.
- If food is brought in, it must be limited to the creative and text study room. Please take all food remnants away and throw them out upstairs, and clean and sweep the room.
Want to visit breathing space?
The general posted open hours are available for creativity and spiritual exploration. Breathing Space is also available for sacred text studies. Each Yale Religious Ministries group can reserve the space for one weekly sacred text study. Interfaith text studies are encouraged and are available in addition to either group’s allotted weekly time. Please note that as there will be staff and other visitors passing through the space, it’s best to keep sacred text studies open to the public.
Non YRM groups must discuss their wish to use the space with a chaplain.
