Kari Henkelmann Keyl has been the Pastor and Director of Luther House at Yale since 2011.  She earned her MDiv from Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago in 1990 and her BA from Valparaiso University in 1985. Ordained in 1990, Kari has served parishes in Virginia, New Hampshire and Vermont.  Immediately before coming to Luther House, Kari served as Mission Developer in Nashua, New Hampshire of By the Way, forming community with young adults both virtually in in person.  Most recently she was honored by St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Centreville, Virginia, for initiating a mission-trip ministry with Habitat for Humanity that is now in its 25th year.

Kari is married to the Rev. Tim Keyl, pastor to Bethesda Lutheran Church in New Haven, with whom she has spent considerable time in Jerusalem, Israel and Palestine. They have two children, Gabriel and Bethany, both of whom are in college.

When not working, Kari can be found in her kitchen experimenting with the tastes and textures of delicious healthy foods… or looking for a ping pong table and someone with whom to play!
