Life Before Yale Chaplaincy:
  • Senior Pastor of Mount Aery Baptist Church in Bridgeport, CT (1975-1992)
Key Contributions:
  • Muslim Life at Yale: Dedicated the first Musallah (Muslim prayer room) at Yale in 2001 and hired the first Muslim Fellow to serve the Muslim student community in 2005
  • Organized, and later published, a preaching series celebrating Yale’s tercentennial in 2001 at Battell Chapel

  • First African American to hold the role of University Chaplain at Yale

Life After Yale Chaplaincy:
  • Carl and Dorothy Bennett Professor in Pastoral Counseling, Yeshiva University
